GUIDED MEDITATION

MEDITATION IN EDMONTON

Find calmness and peace in your life, beginning with just a few moments of stillness.

Meditation is a popular practice that helps with improving concentration and focus, reducing stress and anxiety, and reconnecting with yourself. Instead of worrying about your to-do list or that last conversation that didn't go so well, meditation allows you to slow down and focus on the present moment (not past or future concerns).

Guided meditation is great for beginners as you are given direction and guidance on what to focus on and how to bring your attention back to the moment when it drifts away. Guided meditation can be as short or as long as you wish, from 5 minutes to 40 minutes.

GUIDED MEDITATION

HOW MEDITATION CAN HELP

Practicing meditation allows you to reconnect with your inner being - your emotions, thoughts, needs, and goals. At Solace Psychology, you will have a welcoming, comfortable space to slow down and focus within. While practicing meditation can be really difficult on your own, short guided meditation is easier to follow along and tune in. You will follow the sound of your Psychologist's voice as they guide you to discover your inner strengths, abilities, and wisdom.

Benefits of guided meditation:

  • feeling more calm, relaxed, & at peace
  • gain perspective on your life
  • reduce anxiety & stress levels
  • learn how to calm the mind & regulate your nervous system
  • boost your confidence & self-esteem
  • restore balance in your life
  • improve your concentration & focus
  • reconnect with your values & goals
  • train your brain to be less emotionally reactive (based on neuroscience research)
  • improve your emotional health

RECENT RESEARCH ON MEDITATION:

The research on the benefits of meditation is ever growing.

  • According to Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn (author, molecular biologist, professor, and researcher at the University of Massachusetts Medical School), meditation can change brain activity, shifting levels from the right-frontal cortex (active stress) to the left-frontal cortex (stability). This means that meditation helps to regulate and calm the parts of the brain that keep you overanalyzing and itching to keep busy.

  • Research from the University of New Hampshire's Office of Health Education shows that practicing meditation regularly can result in enhanced concentration in school and work, improved relationships, reduced cravings for nicotine and alcohol, and decreased blood pressure.
