Carly Prive, M.C., B.A.

Mental Health Therapist in Edmonton

Child, Teen & Adult Therapist

carly prive

Hello! My name is Carly. I am so happy you are here!

I thoroughly enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing trauma-related concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem issues, shame and guilt, grief and loss, communication/boundary issues, stress, and attachment concerns

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from MacEwan University and then began my Master of Counselling Degree from City University of Seattle. Currently, I am a student member of the Psychologist Association of Alberta.

I have been working in the mental health industry for almost a decade, primarily with children, teens, and adults with various mental health needs. My professional experience includes working with individuals diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Additionally, I have gained invaluable experience working at a psychiatric inpatient program to support youth facing family and academic challenges, addiction and behavioural concerns, and severe mental health symptoms. Recently, I have acquired experience working with individuals who have experienced or witnessed various forms of family violence or domestic abuse.

Therapy for Children, Adolescents & Adults

Carl Jung once said, “ I am not what happened to me; I am what I choose to become.” I believe all humans can thrive when given the tools and strategies needed to overcome their traumatic or stressful experiences. To support my clients, I believe in building a solid therapeutic relationship and creating a safe place for you, as my client, to process, learn, heal, and grow. I believe that all clients are experts in their life, and as your therapist, I feel honoured to bear witness to your story and help you navigate life’s challenges.

I work from a holistic, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approach to support my clients in managing and overcoming their mental health concerns. When working with children, I use a variety of play-based and art-based therapeutic strategies. My approach to therapy involves using strength-based modalities such as Positive Psychology and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also tend to gravitate toward Attachment-Based Therapy, especially when helping clients process early life experiences. In addition, I often support clients by using a mix of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Finally, I typically use psychoeducation within sessions to help normalize and validate the client’s experience while educating and providing the client with tools and strategies to make meaningful changes.

Outside of my role as a Mental Health Therapist and graduate student, you can typically find me hiking or camping in the mountains, spending time with my husband, getting lost in a good book, or baking up some delicious treats.

I love being a Mental Health Therapist at Solace Psychology, and I can’t wait to meet you.
