Registered Psychologist in Edmonton

Counselling & Groups

Danielle Charron Psychologist

Hi there! I’m Danielle Charron, a Registered Psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

Therapy for Children, Teens & Parents

I have been providing mental health counselling to children, adolescents, and parents for the last 5 years. I absolutely love what I do and I believe that, with the right supports, all children and adolescents can participate meaningfully at home, school, and in the community. Common concerns that I help with include: ADHD, anxiety, self-harm, depression, oppositional or defiant behaviours, anger, emotional regulation,  and parent-child relationship issues.

I’ve been interested in working with children, adolescents, and parents for as long as I can remember. I completed my Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology at the University of Alberta, where I took a keen interest in developmental psychology. Following that, I completed my Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle- Edmonton Campus. My practicum placement was completed at a psychiatric day program, where my love of working with families was affirmed.

You and your child will appreciate my openness, sense of humour, and playfulness. Our relationship will be collaborative, with you creating the goals you’d like to achieve during our time together.

Therapy for Adults

In addition to working with youth, I enjoy helping adults learn to cope with various mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, chronic pain, body image, and self-esteem. I approach therapy with curiosity, collaboration, and compassion. I believe in providing integrated and evidence-based therapy, drawing upon Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFT), Parent Management Training, mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I enjoy working closely with schools and universities in by providing strategies to support success in the classroom. I will be offering psycho-educational assessments in the near future.

I value adventure, creativity, joy, and wellness. My time outside of the office is spent hiking, practicing yoga, painting, and spending time with friends discussing our latest Netflix binges.

Counselling for Parents

Danielle is currently offering Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) sessions at a reduced rate ($100/session instead of $200/session).

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioural problems. It is conducted through "coaching" sessions where Danielle provides in-the-moment coaching on skills you are learning to manage your child's behaviour. This treatment is appropriate for children aged 3-6 years old.
PCIT is done across 2 treatment phases. The first phase of treatment focuses on establishing warmth in your relationship with your child through learning and applying skills proven to help children feel calm, secure in their relationships with their parents, and good about themselves. The second phase of treatment will equip you to manage the most challenging of your child's behaviours while remaining confident, calm, and consistent in your approach to discipline. In this phase, you will learn proven strategies to help your child accept your limits, comply with your directions, respect house rules, and demonstrate appropriate behaviour in public.
With consistent attendance and homework completion, PCIT can be completed within 12-20 sessions, though treatment is not time-limited. Treatment is considered complete when you have mastered both sets of skills and rate your child's behaviour within normal limits on a behaviour rating scale.
