Polina Hapco, B.Sc., M.Ed.

Registered Provisional Psychologist in Edmonton

Mental Health Counselling

Polina Hapco

Hi, my name is Polina and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

My experience is that we all deal with difficulties in our lives, and perhaps one of the most damaging messages we receive early on is that we need to do it all alone and it's defeating feeling stuck and not knowing where to start. There's a pressure to change and do things differently, and succeed at everything, but as a person you live in a context that contributes to the problems you're facing. Change is hard and it happens through experimenting, failing and learning and it helps when gentle support and acceptance is present.

Therapy for Children, Teens, Parents & Families

Fostering healthy child development has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy working with children and teens who experience behavioural issues, emotion-regulation concerns, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, trauma related disorders, Learning Disorders, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. A large part of my work also involves supporting parents and families.

When working with children and families, I take a supportive, gentle approach. I draw from a variety of clinical modalities, including Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as play-based, sandplay and art-based therapy.

In my work prior to becoming a psychologist, I have facilitated various parenting workshops and I am dedicated to continuing my work with parents, offering helpful parenting strategies to best support children's growth and healing.

Therapy for Adults & Couples

In addition to working with youth, I enjoy counselling adults. I support clients in learning valuable tools to cope with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-image, conflict resolution, Adult ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder among other mental health concerns.

I also enjoy working with couples, helping partners foster healthy communication, rekindle their bond, and live a happier life together. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.

I have a person centered, supportive, involved approach and I like to make the best of the time spent together with clients. I use a couple different modalities in my practice, depending on client goals and needs. Change is possible and it looks like a life that is more comfortable and rewarding despite challenges and problems that will continue to surface.
