Benefits of ADHD Assessments for Adults

Seeking an ADHD Assessment as an adult can be a life-changing step. Many people come to us after years of feeling frustrated, misunderstood, or burnt out. A thorough, evidence-based assessment offers more than just a diagnosis; it provides clarity, direction, and a practical plan for moving forward.

Some of the key benefits of completing ADHD testing at Solace Psychology & Wellness include:

  • Clarity and Validation – Understanding whether ADHD is contributing to your challenges can bring immense relief.

  • Formal Diagnosis & Treatment Options  – Did you know that there are 3 types of ADHD? A professional diagnosis at Solace can open doors to workplace accommodations, academic supports, or medical treatment options (e.g., medication) that may have previously felt out of reach.

  • Personalized Recommendations to Help You Thrive – Our assessments include tailored strategies to help improve focus, organization, and emotional regulation. We also provide guidance on next steps such as therapy, routine planning, nutrition counselling, and psychiatrist referrals.

  • Improved Daily Functioning – With clearer insight into your unique profile, you’ll be able to develop practical tools for managing responsibilities, reducing overwhelm, and achieving personal and professional goals.

  • Relationship and Communication Support – Many adults discover that understanding ADHD helps them explain their experiences to partners, friends, or family members, improving communication and reducing conflict.

  • Career and Academic Growth – For students and professionals, an assessment can provide the documentation needed to access accommodations like extended time, reduced distractions, or flexible deadlines, allowing you to perform at your full potential.

  • Long-Term Planning – Beyond immediate strategies, your results can help inform future choices, whether that’s continuing education, job opportunities, or lifestyle changes that align better with your strengths.

Our goal is to empower you with both knowledge and practical tools. An ADHD Assessment is not just about identifying challenges—it’s about uncovering your potential, validating your lived experience, and creating a roadmap for lasting change.

ADHD Assessments for Post-Secondary Students

For many college and university students, ADHD symptoms can make studying, completing assignments, and managing deadlines overwhelming. A formal ADHD Assessment provides the documentation required by most post-secondary institutions to access academic accommodations. These may include:

  • Extended time on exams or reduced-distraction testing environments

  • Flexibility with assignment deadlines

  • Access to note-taking or tutoring support services

  • Priority course registration for scheduling needs

Having a clear diagnosis and recommendations helps students level the playing field, giving them the chance to demonstrate their true abilities without unnecessary barriers. Our assessment team provides thorough letters and reports that meet the standards of universities and colleges in Alberta, ensuring you can receive the right support to succeed academically.

ADHD Assessments to Support You at Work

ADHD doesn’t just affect academics; it can also impact professional life. Adults with ADHD may find it harder to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, or maintain focus during long meetings. A formal ADHD assessment can support access to workplace accommodations, such as:

  • Flexible scheduling or modified deadlines

  • Reduced-distraction workspaces or remote work options

  • Use of organizational tools, technology, and reminders

  • Clearer communication strategies and structured feedback

With proper recognition and support, employees with ADHD often thrive, bringing creativity, problem-solving skills, and innovation to their roles. Our ADHD Assessments provide the documentation and tailored recommendations needed to help you advocate for accommodations and create a more balanced, productive work experience.

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ADHD ASSESSMENT

What an ADHD Assessment Does (and Does Not) Cover

ADHD Assessments are designed to provide clarity around attention, focus, organization, emotion dysregulation, and impulse-control concerns. It’s important to understand that these evaluations are not the same as a full Psychoeducational Assessment or Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment, and they do not test for intelligence (IQ), learning disabilities, sensory processing issues, or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Our ADHD Assessments focus specifically on whether ADHD is present and how it impacts daily functioning. We use standardized tests, detailed questionnaires, and structured interviews to rule out other causes of attention problems, such as mental health concerns, medical conditions, or environmental stressors.

Because ADHD can sometimes overlap with other concerns such as learning disabilities, we carefully consider whether a more comprehensive psychoeducational assessment would be a better fit. For example:

  • If academic skills such as reading, writing, or math appear to be significantly affected, a full psychoeducational evaluation is usually recommended.

  • If attention challenges are the primary concern and learning or cognitive abilities are not in question, a focused ADHD Assessment may be sufficient.

By tailoring the type of assessment to your needs, we ensure you receive the most accurate, efficient, and cost-effective evaluation possible.

*If a different type of assessment is recommended, our team is able to provide referrals to agencies that we partner with in the Edmonton area.

Yes. ADHD symptoms can be reassessed at any stage to evaluate treatment effects, age-related changes, or to update recommendations for accommodations and supports.

After your assessment, you can access ongoing therapy with our team of psychologists and counsellors, in-house nutrition and lifestyle support, or referrals to psychiatrists if medication management or additional treatment is indicated.

Bring any childhood report cards, past assessments, or medical records that note patterns in attention or behaviour. It is helpful to demonstrate that ADHD symptoms were present during childhood. Also, eat well, stay hydrated, and get a good night’s sleep to help you perform your best during testing.
