The initial session is 50 minutes and will be for parents only, giving us an opportunity to understand your child’s developmental history, strengths, and needs, so we can provide the best possible support. Note that we are unable to supervise children in the waiting room.

*We offer in-person and virtual therapy sessions for your convenience.

A valid credit card is required to be kept on file to cover the cost of cancellation fees. * Please note that this charge is typically not covered by insurance policies, and we are unable to directly bill for these sessions.

If you are looking to cancel or reschedule your session, please give us a call at 780-702-1079 (leave a detailed voicemail if we are helping other clients at that time), email us at hello@solacewellness.ca (Edmonton clinic) or StAlbert@solacewellness.ca (St. Albert clinic), or cancel through our online booking portal

Many extended health care plans provide coverage for psychological services. Before your first session, please confirm the following details with your benefits provider.

When speaking with your insurance provider, you may find it helpful to ask:

  • Does my plan include coverage for counselling sessions,  assessment sessions, and/or psychological reports?
  • What type of professional can I book with (e.g., Registered Psychologist, Canadian Certified Counsellor)?
  • Is there a deductible per session, and if so, how much is it?
  • What is the maximum amount of coverage available per session?
  • What is the maximum amount of coverage per year?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
  • Am I covered under my partner’s or spouse’s plan as well?
  • Does my plan offer direct billing for psychological services? (Note that Sunlife and Manulife do not offer direct billing for mental health services in AB, however, they allow plan members to submit a detailed receipt for reimbursement.)
  • Do I need a referral/prescription from a physician to access funding for therapy?

Any portion of fees paid to a Registered Psychologist that is not reimbursed by insurance is typically considered a tax-deductible medical expense. You may also be able to use funds from a health spending account, if available.

If you have been involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) in Alberta, you may be eligible for funding for psychological services and massage therapy through your auto insurance provider. Sessions are often covered as part of accident rehabilitation benefits for a certain amount of time. We recommend contacting your insurance adjuster or lawyer to discuss your options and determine the coverage available to you. In many cases, we can work directly with your insurance company to arrange billing, so you can focus on your recovery. Please reach out to us if you would like assistance with this process — we’re here to help.

If you are off work due to illness, injury, or disability, you may be eligible to access funding for psychological services through your disability benefits provider or disability services program, such as WCB, Manulife, and OSI. We encourage you to contact your Case Manager or Insurance Representative to learn more about your specific coverage for counselling and massage therapy. We may be able to invoice your disability insurance provider or company directly, helping to reduce out-of-pocket costs for you. Please feel free to reach out to our team if you need assistance navigating this process — we’re happy to help.

EDMONOTN THERAPY & SUPPORT PERSONALIZED FOR YOU

Additional Information Regarding Mental Health Therapy in Edmonton

Counselling can result in many benefits including: gaining new perspectives, achieving self-acceptance and self-compassion, improving relationships, living a more meaningful and fulfilling life, boosting self-esteem and confidence, learning effective tools for coping with life’s challenges, and reducing distressing symptoms.

Your therapist will work with you to develop counselling goals and create a customized roadmap for personal growth. Counselling works by establishing a collaborative, trusting therapeutic relationship with your psychologist to feel safe enough to explore and process your emotional experiences. Although it can be uncomfortable at times to face your pain, you will not be alone as your psychologist will be right alongside you on your journey to growth, wellness, and freedom. Once you uncover and work through the roots of your problems you will notice positive changes blossoming within various areas of your life.

Life has its ups and downs, and there are times in life when each of us feels overwhelmed. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. Solace Psychology & Wellness offers a soothing, comforting space to help you feel welcomed and at ease once you arrive.

Reaching out is truly a sign of courage and wisdom. Asking for help before a problem gets really bad is best, as this can prevent it from transpiring into other areas of your life, such as relationships, work, or school, or leading to addictions. Whether you are experiencing signs of anxiety, stress, or depression, or you’re just needing a mental health check-up, you will benefit from counselling.

At Solace Psychology & Wellness, we have a diverse team of professionals to support you on your therapeutic journey. All of our Therapists adhere to the highest level of ethical care and counselling standards. You can trust that your therapy is being guided by professionals dedicated to your well-being, with appropriate oversight to ensure quality care.

Note that Vanessa does not sit in sessions, but instead reviews counselling videos and charts, as well as provides training and consultation.

At Solace Psychology & Wellness, we understand how important it is to find a therapist who feels like the right fit for you. Your initial therapy session is an opportunity to begin building that connection in a supportive, non-judgmental space.

During this first meeting, your therapist will take time to get to know you — exploring your current concerns, personal history, and what has brought you to therapy at this time. Together, you’ll begin to identify your goals for therapy and discuss how sessions can be tailored to best support your unique needs. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to determine how often to book sessions for best results. This is also a chance for you to ask questions, share any preferences you have for your care, and get a sense of whether the therapist feels like a good match.

How often you attend therapy depends on your personal goals, circumstances, and the type of support that’s right for you. In the beginning, many clients find that booking 6 weekly sessions provides the consistency needed to build a strong therapeutic relationship, process your experiences, learn effective coping skills and begin working toward meaningful change. As you make progress and feel more confident in managing challenges, the frequency of sessions can be adjusted. Some clients choose to space out appointments over time or check in occasionally for ongoing support and maintenance. Together, you and your therapist will determine a schedule that feels supportive and aligns with your evolving needs and financial situation. There is no one-size-fits-all, as every client comes to us with different life stories, experiences, challenges and goals — your care plan will be personalized to you.

Our initial and follow-up therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, providing focused and effective support, and allowing 10 minutes for charting. For clients who prefer more time, we also offer extended sessions of up to 80 minutes to accommodate deeper exploration and therapeutic work. Connect with us to learn more.

At Solace Psychology & Wellness, we provide in-person therapy sessions to individuals in Edmonton, Alberta and virtual therapy sessions to anyone residing in Alberta. We are ethically bound to solely provide therapeutic services in Alberta, as our psychologists are licensed in Alberta. If you live in a different province, we recommend finding a psychologist at https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca.

We genuinely care about helping you find a therapist who feels like the right fit. Our Client Services Team takes great care in our matching process to pair you with a therapist who can best support your needs, however, we understand that the therapeutic relationship is personal, and sometimes it may take time to find the right connection. If at any point you feel that another therapist might be a better match, we encourage you to let us know. We will gladly work with you to help connect you with a therapist who aligns with your goals, values, and preferences. We have a large and diverse team of professional therapists who offer a range of therapeutic specialties. We also work closely with other organizations in Edmonton and often provide additional resources to our clients. Our priority is that you feel comfortable, supported, and confident as you take this important step toward well-being.

No, a referral is not required, although we do receive many referrals from local physicians, psychiatrists, counsellors, schools, community agencies, and insurance companies. Please note that some insurance providers may require a referral from a physician for coverage. We recommend verifying your insurance requirements before scheduling your first appointment.
