NICOLE KWAN

CLIENT SERVICES TEAM LEAD

Hello! My name is Nicole Kwan, and I’m currently attending Grant MacEwan University. I am pursuing my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Growing up, I was always the go-to when my friends had problems, and I’d always be the one to lend a listening ear. Now I hope to make a life-long career out of my listening ears. I am passionate about helping others fall in love with therapy because therapy has changed my life. I’ve learned so much about myself, like that I’m a highly sensitive person. Clearly, I am very vocal about my love for therapy and will go on about it for hours to anyone willing to listen. For a bit of insight into my personality, my Myer-Briggs type is INFJ: the advocate.

I was awarded “Biggest Dog Lover” in school, and nothing has changed since then. Except, I finally got the most wonderful dog named Lucky! We love to explore Edmonton and see everything this wonderful city has to offer. By far, our most favourite place to walk is Buena Vista Dog Park; the view of the river is stunning. When I’m not with my pup, I am at the gym or trying out a trendy new restaurant.

SARA MONCION

INTAKE COORDINATOR

Hello, I am Sara!  I hold a Bachelors of Arts (Honours) Psychology Degree from the University of Alberta. As part of the Honours program, I have developed a lot of knowledge in how to conduct research, time management and critical thinking. I have plans of pursuing a career in counselling psychology and I plan on attending the counselling psychology program at the University of Alberta next fall. I am very passionate about psychology and some of my favorite areas are: child psychology, counseling psychology and psycholinguistics. My favorite class in university was abnormal psychology, as we talked about the different personality disorders, mental health issues and the importance of addressing them and asking for help. I am fluent in Spanish and English, and have just completed  researching the best methods for children to maintain fluency in second languages.

If I am not on campus studying or working, I like to watch movies and go for walks with my dogs. I also love spending time with my family playing board games.

DIANA RODRIGUEZ

INTAKE COORDINATOR

Hello! My name is Diana! I am a graduate of MacEwan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Psychology, also obtaining a certificate for their Office Assistant program. During my third year of university, I discovered my sudden interest in criminal justice, especially learning about cases involving mental illness and how the laws in Canada classifies someone as “mentally incapable” of conviction and on whether they cannot tell the difference between right or wrong and how these factors affect if they are criminally responsible or not. Since high school, I have always been interested in understanding how the human mind works – why people behave the way they do, and how to better understand and connect with others without the use of social stigma.

During my time at MacEwan, I enjoyed learning about social, abnormal, and forensic psychology. I hope to gain a much better understanding and become more involved in the mental health field while working at Solace Psychology. I believe it is so important to take care and understand ourselves mentally in order to live a happier, healthy life.

During my free time, I love practicing vinyasa yoga, going to the gym and reading romance novels. Every summer, I like to go to Banff to explore the town and canoe on the beautiful waters of Moraine Lake. I enjoy spending time playing with my two little dogs whom I adore so much!

MELISSA LAM

Hello! My name is Melissa. I am currently attending the University of Alberta where I am completing a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. For my honours thesis, I am studying the relationship between meaning in life, forgiveness, emotion regulation, and psychosocial adjustment. My favourite topics in psychology are abnormal psychology, personality psychology, and child psychology. After completing my undergraduate degree, I intend to pursue graduate studies and a career in counseling psychology. I am an emphatic and supportive listener to my family and friends, and I hope to one day use these skills to help others!

Outside of school, I enjoy figure skating and I also teach introductory skating to children and adults. I love spending time with my family and watching movies with friends. Whenever the weather is nice, I also like to take my dog Mochi out for walks to let him run around and burn all his energy!

It is amazing to see the tremendous growth in children and adults as they discover their full potential and begin to believe in themselves again. - Vanessa Goodchild
